Smart spray helps UK police catch car thief

Originally published on October 1st, 2013<br /><br />A thief in the UK was found guilty of breaking into a car after police used an anti-theft invisible dye to catch him.<br /><br />Yafet Askale, 28, was caught after breaking into a vehicle fitted with a traceable liquid called SmartWater, which contains a fingerprinted dye that is only visible under ultraviolet light.<br /><br />Askale activated a system installed inside the vehicle which sprayed as he took items including a laptop. <br /><br />The car was set up by police near Askale's home when he broke into it earlier this year. Stolen property was found at his home and he was arrested.<br /><br />Police images of Askale show him covered in the spray.<br /><br />The spray uses a liquid that contains a unique chemical signature that can be matched and traced back to the scene of a particular crime.<br /><br />Askale was given a sentence of 49 hours community service and ordered to pay £400 costs by the court.<br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
