Originally published on September 3, 2013 <br /><br />Thai police have issued an arrest warrant for a grandson of the creator of the Red Bull energy drink.<br /><br />Vorayuth Yoovidhaya, 28, was charged after a fatal hit and run in the Thai capital Bangkok in September. <br /><br />Vorayuth is the grandson of Chaleo Yoovidhaya, a co-creator of the popular energy drink who died in 2012 after making millions.<br /><br />Reports say that Vorayuth was driving a Ferrari at around 5.30am through Bangkok on September 3 when allegedly hit a police motorbike patrolman. <br /><br />The vehicle then dragged the officer and motorbike for several hundred yards before driving away. <br /><br />Police arrested Vorayuth after following a trail of oil from the scene of the accident to his address. <br /><br />A policeman was suspended after turning in a suspect that turned out to be bogus. <br /><br />Vorayuth faces a maximum of 10 years in prison on charges of causing death by reckless driving and failing to stop to help the victim after the accident.<br /><br />His lawyer said he left Thailand on Thursday on a business trip and was unable to travel back to hear the charges laid against him.<br />Vorayuth had fallen ill and was unable to return, but planned to return to Thailand in the next few days and cooperate with the prosescutors, his lawyer added.<br />The family paid the victim's family compensation of approximately $100,000 following the accident, according to police.<br />The case has led some to question Thailand's justice system and its perceived leniency toward the rich and powerful.<br /><br />--------------------------------------------------------<br /><br />TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
