Originally published on July 12, 2013<br /><br />The Double Inverted Funnel for Intervention on Shipwrecks (DIFIS) is an EU project that uses a passive system to capture oil as it escapes a wreck on the ocean floor. The DIFIS system uses two inverted funnels to pump the spilt oil from a wrecked ship directly underwater.
