A US jury has sentenced Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death. <br /><br /> The jury chose death by lethal injection over life in prison for the 21-year-old, for his role in the 2013 attack which killed three people and injured more than 260 others. <br /><br /> The sentencing decision came after 15 hours of deliberations. <br /><br /> Tsarnaev, an ethnic Chechen, was found guilty of placing a pair of homemade pressure cooker bombs at the race’s crowded finish line as well as fatally shooting a police officer. <br /><br /> The bombing was one of he highest profile attacks on US soil since the 11 September 2011 attacks. <br /><br /> Prosecutors described Tsarnaev as an adherent of al Qaeda’s militant Islamist views, who carried out the attack as an act of retribution for the US military campaigns in Muslim-dominated countries. <br /><br /> Defence attorneys opened the trial with the blunt admission that Tsarnaev committed all the crimes he was accused of.
