Phalke Classic Comes to Town <br /><br />"One of Dadasaheb Phalke's classics, Kaliya Mardan which was first released in 1919, opens at The Deepak today. It will run for a week at the theatre in the 7 pm slot.<br />In 1918, Phalke had made Shri Krishna Janma, the first production of the newly formed Hindustan Cinema Film Company which he had set up with Mumbai-based industrialists, Maya Shankar Bhatt, LP Phatak, Madhavji Jesing and Gokuldas Damodar. The highlight of the film was a dream in which Kansa imagines figures of Krishna attacking and decapitating him.
