UEFA wants FIFA vote to be called off amid corruption turmoil

European football’s governing body UEFA has called for Friday’s FIFA presidental election to be postponed.<br /><br /> Incumbent Sepp Blatter is standing for reelection to the FIFA presidency. <br /><br /> UEFA’s secretary general Gianni Infantino said the FIFA event risks turning into a farce.<br /><br /> “UEFA shows this FIFA the red card. Today’s events are a disaster for FIFA and tarnish the image of football as a whole,” said Infantino, reading from a prepared statement. “UEFA is deeply shocked and saddened by them. These events show once again that corruption is deeply rooted in FIFA’s culture. There is a need for the whole of FIFA to be rebooted and for a real reform to be carried out.”<br /><br /> Dozens of football officials are in Zurich for the FIFA congress and election, where Blatter is widely expected to win a fifth term if the vote goes ahead. <br /><br /> Blatter cancelled an appearance at a meeting on Wednesday of the Confederation of African Football.
