Nebraska has become the 19th US state to abolish the death penalty in favour of life imprisonment.<br /><br /> At 30 to 19, the vote overrode a veto by the state’s Republican senator.<br /><br /> Previous ballots to retroactively apply the decision were upheld.<br /><br /> Nebraska has not executed anybody since 1997.
