Man impaled by Swordfish

A man has been killed by a swordfish after he jumped from a Hawaii pier to try to catch it. <br />The victim – named by Hawaii County police as 47-year-old Randy Llanes of Kailua-Kona – was apparently impaled by the bill of the fish. <br />West Hawaii Acting Battalion Chief John Whitman says witnesses reported that the man leapt from a Kailua-Kona pier yesterday Friday in an attempt to catch a billfish. <br />He was later seen floating and firefighters responded to the scene. Mr Whitman said he had a puncture wound to his right, upper torso, and was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. <br />The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says the fish was a swordfish about 3ft long with a bill about 3ft. It weighed about 40lbs.
