The FIFA scandal has hit Argentina hard. One of the sports executives facing charges is Alejandro Burzaco, the main shareholder and CEO of one of the region’s largest sport marketing firms, TYC. They have to do with bribes in exchange for television rights of South American soccer events. The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking Mr. Burzaco’s extradition, along with executives Hugo and Mariano Jenkins. Following the news of the FIFA scandal, Argentina’s tax office filed a lawsuit against the three executives. They are among 14 officials accused of receiving over US$150 million in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for the TV rights of high-profile soccer tournaments. The whereabouts of the three men remains unknown. Leo Poblete reports from Argentina for teleSUR.
