Police in the US city of Dallas, Texas, came under heavy gunfire early on Saturday from what they described as an armoured van. <br /><br /> The vehicle also rammed a squad car before reversing and driving away chased by police. <br /><br /> It eventually stopped in a fast food restaurant car park in the city of Hutchins around 16 kilometres south of Dallas where there was another exchange of gunfire.<br /><br /> Police were able to make contact with at least one man inside the vehicle.<br /><br /> “The suspect has told our negotiators that we took his child and we accused him of being a terrorist and that he’s going to blow us up”, said Dallas Police Chief David Brown.<br /><br /> An explosive device discovered at police headquarters went off as a police robot was attempting to remove it. <br /><br /> A number of other suspect packages were also found. <br /><br /> Nearby residents were moved from their homes while the incident was dealt with.
