“This is a farce” shouted the former President of Chad as he was dragged from a court in Senegal, where he is being tried on counts of war crimes, torture and crimes against humanity.<br /><br /> Hissene Habre denies the legitimacy of the court and had to be forced to attend the first day of the tribunal on Monday, July 20.<br /><br /> It is the first time a former leader of an African country has been put on trial in another.<br /><br /> Court officials later decided to suspend proceedings until September 7, 2015.<br /><br /> The trial marks the end of a 15-year battle to bring him to justice in Senegal where he was living in exile after being toppled in a coup.<br /><br /> Former dictator Habre is accused of being responsible for the torture and killing of thousands of people while ruling the central African country of Chad from 1982 to 1990. <br /><br /> If found guilty the 72-year-old faces sentences ranging from 30 years to life with hard labour.
