The Iraqi Ministry of Defence released footage on Monday of a number of airstrikes and helicopter attacks aimed at suspected Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) positions in Tikrit. According to officials within the Ministry of Defence, the airstrikes inflicted significant damage to IS equipment and killed many suspected members of the group. The airstrikes were conducted as part of the Salahuddin Operations, in an attempt to reclaim Tikrit from the Islamic State. The aerial bombardment follows a failed attempt by the Iraqi Army to retake the city on Tuesday last week.
