Star Soldier started with Star Soldier. This NES shoot ‘em up was improved upon in sequels, but it has a charm that makes it a notable NES shooter. It also has a guy on the cover with a pistol and a sweet haircut. Players fly through space in a ship called the Caesar and bring down the Star Brains—those are the parts Neil deGrasse Tyson doesn’t tell you about. The game is notoriously difficult, but fortunately, you can power-up the Caesar. Or use a Game Genie, whichever.
