From the northern French port of Calais, the English coast is just 33 kilometres away. For migrants desperate to reach the United Kingdom, it’s their best chance of making the crossing. In a bid to reach England, many migrants attempt to climb on board heavy goods vehicles as they enter the port. In July 2015, a secure corridor with a several metre high barbed wire fence was created to try to tackle the problem. Undeterred, migrants have focused their efforts on the Eurotunnel site: 650 hectares surrounded by 28 kilometres of fencing…which is proving a challenge to secure.VIDEOGRAPHIC
