Panelist Professor Nader Hashemi spoke about the challenges of advancing democracy in Muslim societies at a forum this evening on Islamism, Post-Islamism and Civil Islam.<br /><br />He said that if there is no alternative progressive religious leaders or authority then anti democratic interpretations of Islam will sway people with their claims to speak for the religion.
