The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae says it's carefully considering whether President Park Geun-hye should attend China's September 3rd commemorative event for the 70th anniversary of the allied victory over Japan in World War Two.<br />President Park's spokesperson also denied a Japanese media report that the U.S. requested the Korean leader not to attend the ceremonies, calling it "groundless."<br />The White House has also denied the report.<br />On Sunday, Japan's Kyodo News said Washington made the request, raising concerns President Park, by attending, may send a message that China has caused a rift in the South Korea-U.S. alliance.<br />Cheong Wa Dae is expected to make the decision after its own review and taking into account what Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says in his anniversary statement on Friday.
