Next year the 10 nations that make up the Association of South-east Nations are pledging to unite as a single regional market and production base.

The goal is to create a region with free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labor and the flow of capital. A dynamic united 'family'.

So will this be a dream union or an eventual traumatic transition?

Will the union benefit the majority of people living in the ASEAN region?

To discuss this we brought together leaders in their fields from across the region.

Representing ASEAN - Mr Danny LEE - the Director for Community Affairs Development at the The ASEAN Secretariat

Ms Septania Kadir the head of programs at the ASEAN Foundation

And Migrant workers activist Ms Irin Fernandez the executive director of Tenaganita who helps foreign workers who have been abused or exploited.

Another human rights veteran Debbie Stothard who is the co-founded of Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma and is its coordinator.

And multi-media regional businessman Ardian Elkana he is the Head of the permanent committee for multimedia, animation and gaming of KADIN Indonesian chamber of commerce and industry.

Our debate took place at the ASEAN foundation in Central Jakarta.
