The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest international cooperative project in engineering and science of all times, achieved by the US, Russia, Europe, Canada and Japan.<br /><br />Most people are aware of its presence up there in space but only a few can recall concrete examples of how this research laboratory benefits humankind.<br />This ESA video illustrates the domains in which the ISS is broadening human knowledge and fostering economic growth: as a unique example of global peaceful cooperation; a laboratory for fundamental and applied research; a driver for technological innovation; a unique platform for inspiring new generations ; a way to prepare for future human exploration destinations; and a privileged outpost to observe the Earth.<br /><br />ISS research for the benefit of humankind
