Performance
Lying by Trees 2
National Gugak Center's Contemporary Gugak Orchestra presented

another high-quality concert to the public under the title of "Lying by Tree

2." Following last year's edition, this performance musically reflects

another side of the orchestra members. Inspired by old drawings and

poems, this edition revolves around the relatable themes of love,

aberration and freedom. That includes "A Game of Chess," which got its

motif from "The Waste Land," to "Soul in a Dream," inspired by Lee Ok-

bong's poem. By drawing inspiration from diverse subjects, the

performance has both Koreans and non-Koreans relating to their music. In

addition, "Maze" incorporates electronic effects into Gugak to illustrate the

intricacy of reality, while "The Black Sea" combines "The East Coast

Byulshin Gut" with traditional instruments to depict the tragedy of Sewol-

ho ferry last year. Consoling everyone living in this harsh world, the

performers touched the audience wholeheartedly.

[Performance] Heartfelt Gugak concert with true interaction

National Gugak Center http://www.gugak.go.kr
