A US university campus went into lockdown amid reports of gunfire on Thursday.<br /><br /> Local media reports say one person was taken to hospital after being shot and wounded on the campus of Savannah State University in Georgia.<br /><br /> “We were eating and they just started fighting out of nowhere and then someone pulled out a gun and shot him,” said student Ashia Gordon.<br /><br /> “Everyone just left. He was by himself.”<br /><br /> No active shooter was found on campus and inquiries are continuing.<br /><br /> The campus of the historically black university is in the heart of Savannah, an Atlantic seaport that is Georgia’s oldest city.<br /><br /> US universities have been the scene of many firearms incidents amid an ongoing national debate on gun control.<br /><br /> The Savannah incident came a day after two TV journalists were slain by a gunman during a live broadcast in Virginia and about two months after the June 17 fatal shooting of nine parishioners at an African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina.
