An enormous car bomb has been detonated in a city in Northern Syria.<br /><br /> At least ten people have been killed and dozens more injured in the explosion in Latakia.<br /><br /> The coastal stronghold is loyal to President Bashar-al-Assad.<br /><br /> It has so far escaped the worst of the violence that has ravaged Syria during its four years of civil war.<br /> <br /><br /> Bomb detonated near a school<br /><br /> <br /><br /> The bomb was detonated in a main square. <br /><br /> State media say a van containing at least half a ton of explosives was left near a school.<br /><br /> “This is a despicable criminal act,” said one bystander.“These people have no religion and no faith.There is nothing more to say.” <br /><br /> No one has admitted being behind the attack. State media have blamed anti-government insurgents.<br /><br /> Elsewhere, two students have died in a mortar attack on Damascus University.
