Two policemen were killed and three injured on Sunday (Sept. 6) during clashes with Kurdish separatists in the eastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir, according to media reports.<br /><br /> Fighters from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) reportedly fired a rocket-propelled grenade at police trying to raid their positions. Turkish police, backed by helicopters, exchanged fire with the separatists, and residents were ordered to stay indoors until further notice.<br /><br /> Deadly clashes have surged across eastern Turkey since July, when a two-year ceasefire between the PKK and the government collapsed, with both sides blaming the other.
