Since launching the Malaysiakini's citizen journalism course two years ago, the independent news website has helped empower more than 180 Malaysians to be the voice of their communities.<br /><br />Last weekend, this pioneering group of citizen journalists had a reunion of sorts at the inaugural Citizen Journalism Conference 2010, that was held at the Central Market Annexe in Kuala Lumpur.<br /><br />The conference, timed in conjunction with May 3 World Press Freedom Day, was the first of its kind in Malaysia.<br /><br />Maran Perianen offers his take on the citizen journalism programme.
