Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in his first chairing of the Umno Supreme Council as party president said that a number of issues were discussed. Amongst them: <br /> <br />1. The partys commitment towards change and renewal not only within the party but with Barisan Nasional coalition as well <br />2. This years general assembly will see amendments to the party Constitution in particular articles concerning party elections to make the process more transparent and democratic <br />3. The liberalisation of the economy to be on par with other ASEAN member nations. The recent announcement on the liberalisation of 27 business sub-sectors he said came about after a two-year study and after deliberation with Bumiputras in these areas <br />4. There will be an announcement on Monday April 27 on the financial services sector <br /> <br />Meanwhile, in one of his first decisions as Umno leader, Najib axed eight state party chiefs, retaining only five incumbents. <br /> <br />He himself will be heading Selangor while his deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin, will lead Federal Territories. <br /> <br />Top party leaders have been appointed to head the liaison committees in all opposition-held states - Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan. <br /> <br />For the full list of appointments, click here: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/103072
