The eastern Syrian city of Hasaka, mostly Kurdish-controlled, has been hit by two car bombs, killing at least 26 people including six Kurdish soldiers.

The first bomb went off in the Khashman area, targeting the Kurdish fighters, while the second exploded in the city centre near Syrian government forces headquarters.

An ISIL attack in June all but eliminated Syrian forces in the city, and the Kurds have been avoiding conflict with them to concentrate on fighting the Islamic extremists.
