Exit polls suggest a coalition of separatist parties will win control of parliament in Catalonia.<br /><br /> They are on track to win a majority of seats in the 135-strong assembly.<br /><br /> Turnout is said to be at an historic high – around seven percent up on the election in 2012.<br /><br /> Follow the news on the vote which will decide whether Catalonia embarks on process to gain independence from Spain.<br /><br /> <br /><br /> The result could set the region on course for a unilateral declaration of independence from Spain, which the Spanish centre-right government of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy says is impossible.<br /><br /> The vote may also influence the outcome of the Spanish general election later in the year.
