Massive protests across Peru have been targeting transnational mining companies whose operations, with the complicity of the government, are contaminating the environment. In Simon Bolivar in Central Peru, 60% of local children suffer the effects of lead, cadmium, and arsenic poisoning. Their parents are participating in a march on Lima to raise awareness of the problem and demand the government implement the 32-step plan it approved two years to address the situation.
