Volkswagen engineers admit to manipulating emissions data

Perhaps the 20-person estimate of people responsible for VW's growing emissions scandal isn't so small after all.<br /><br />According to German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Volkswagen engineers have admitted to tampering with emissions data of the brand's cars. Engineers reportedly tampered with vehicles during testing, including over-inflating tires and adding diesel fuel to engine oil that allowed the engines to run more smoothly, thereby using less fuel.<br /><br />It was these alterations that caused the newly admitted additional 800,000 diesel and gasoline cars with emissions "irregularities" in Europe that the Volkswagen Group estimates will cost it $2.19 billion dollars.
