McDougall came to lead the group that bought the company through many years of success as an entrepreneur. At the age of 18, he moved to Vancouver and started his own business. He bought thousands of magnetic tapes, stocked them in a warehouse, and tried to sell them. He was unsuccessful at first, but when he realized how valuable they were, he sold them cheaply and made about $11,000. His entrepreneurial career went on from there. Over the years, he started other businesses and came to be the CEO of Fields.
