Starring Ole Olsen, Chic Johnson, Joyc Compton. Lila Lee, Pierre Watkin, Donald Kirke, Ray Corrigan and Sammy McKim. Directed by Ralph Staub.

The duo of John Sigvard "Ole" Olsen (1892-1963) and Harold Ogden "Chic" Johnson (1891-1962) rivaled The Marx Brothers for madcap lunacy in vaudeville and on the stage.

Though the screen version of their successful, madcap stage classic, HELLZAPOPPIN', remains one the funniest films to come out of Hollywood in the 1940s, the Olsen and Johnson had only sporadic luck in the movies. Between 1930 and 1945, they appeared or starred in ten films, none of which approached the success or quality of HELLZAPOPPIN', their seventh film.

Here's a somewhat subdued Olsen and Johnson in the first of two films they made for Republic Pictures, COUNTRY GENTLEMEN (1936).

This is the edited-for-television version. In its uncut form, COUNTRY GENTLEMEN ran 66 minutes. For television showings, it was trimmed to fit a one-hour time slot.
.
