Finale (22:28) <br /> <br />Ralph Vaughan Williams is likely Britain’s most distinguished composer of the 20th Century; his work ranges from a variety of styles. First, he was an unabashed nationalist romantic. Second, he shifted into cynical modernism with touches of impressionism after WWI, and finally he developed a very particular vein of post-romanticism whilst in his 70’s and 80’s. His Serenade in A minor is his very first symphonic piece. It is an abstract work which was initially in four movements to which RVW added a Romance in between the Intermezzo and the finale. The work was unfortunately not to the composers’ taste and withdrew it. It was recently rediscovered and edited by Julius Rushton. <br /> <br />Ralph Vaughan Williams es quizás el compositor más distinguido del siglo 20 en Inglaterra; su obra posee varios estilos. Primero, él era un romántico nacionalista. Segundo, tras la 1GM, su música pasó a un modernismo cínico con toques impresionistas y finalmente entre sus 70 y 80 años, RVW desarrolló una vena muy particular de pos-romanticismo. Su Serenata en La menor es su primera pieza sinfónica. Es una obra abstracta que inicialmente tenía cuatro movimientos a los cuales el compositor agregó un Romance entre el Intermezzo y el Final. La obra no fue del agrado del compositor quien la retiró de su catálogo.
