Gary Bettman has a six-year extension to remain as NHL commissioner.<br />The deal, which runs through 2022, was signed in September but was first reported and confirmed by sources Sunday.<br />As has been his way, Bettman's contract extensions rarely get announced.<br />Bettman, 63, took over as NHL commissioner back on Feb. 1, 1993, presiding over large revenue growth and expansion but also controversial labor battles in 1994-95, 2004-05 and 2012-13, cancelling the entire season in 2004-05 in order to get the players to accept a salary cap.
