Greece: Sit-in footballers for Refugees

2016-02-03 0 Dailymotion

Friday, January 29, 2016, a special event took place on the football field in the city of Larissa in Greece. At the meeting of the second division between local club AEL Larissa Acharnaikos, players from both teams sat on the lawn at the kick-off, like the rest of the technical staff. Athletes have made this symbolic gesture to protest and denounce the lax policy of the European Union vis-à-vis refugees arriving from the Aegean Sea. A tribute to those who perished in their attempt to reach the Greek coast. The sit-in lasted for the first two minutes of the game. The AEL Larissa eventually won the match 2-0.
