The US House of Representatives narrowly approved a Republican-led bill on Tuesday targeting the lifting of sanctions following the implementation of the landmark nuclear agreement with Iran, nearly three weeks after a similar vote was cancelled.
Ignoring a threat by United States President Barack Obama to veto it, House members voted 246-281 to pass the "Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act" with almost every "yes" vote coming from Republicans while Democrats overwhelmingly voted against it.
The legislation was first passed by the House in early January, even though 137 representatives did not vote.
While the legislation is not expected to become law, it would bar the removal of certain individuals and financial institutions from a sanctions list until they have been found not to be involved in Iran's ballistic missiles program or involved in terror activities.
