Coast & Country Housing and Yuill Homes have handed over the first keys to elderly tenants who will be moving from their pre-fabricated homes to brand new bungalows. <br /><br />The residents of East Meadows in Marske had been living in the pre-fabs which were built for soldiers returning home after the Second World War. They were described as “Homes for Heroes”, but only meant to have a lifespan of ten years. Despite the age of the prefabs, and the problems and expense of keeping them repaired and heated, a strong community developed and the tenants of Coast & Country were initially reluctant to move.
