Wigan Warriors V Hull FC Super League Round 4

2016-03-10 3 Dailymotion

Wigan Warriors made it four wins from four matches in First Utility Super League as they came out of a tough clash at Hull FC with a 26-25 victory.

The Warriors have yet to hit to form in spite of that run, but with a well-stocked treatment room, coach Shaun Wane will have little regard for how the points are coming.

These two came on a night when the Warriors squandered a 14-point lead and trailed by four going into the final eight minutes, with a flying finish from Josh Charnley and two Matty Smith drop goals doing the trick bailing them out.

Smith’s second drop goal came with 105 seconds left and just after Marc Sneyd had cancelled out his first.

Wane will doubtless be pleased with his side’s mettle - if not their game management - but had Hull attacked throughout as they did for 10 second-half minutes, they would have won themselves.

Wane was pleased to see his side maintain their 100 per cent record, saying: "We showed some character and I am very proud of all my players – it was an outstanding effort.

“We had virtually no ball in the second half and our completion rate was at 70 per cent.

“We put ourselves under pressure, but the desire and guts and the heart we showed, with so many players out, was outstanding against a well-coached and athletic team.

“I was thinking ‘stop giving them penalties and putting ourselves under pressure.

“We did that. There is still lots of improvement in us and you can’t question our desire. We came here against a fantastic Hull team and got a win.

“The two drop goals were really good ones, but I’m happy because I believe Hull will beat many teams. Teams will come here and get pummelled.

“We are four from four and not played - we will improve for Leeds next week, another challenge and the players are buzzing

.
