BRUSSELS — A pair of explosions ripped through the Zaventem airport shortly before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, while a third blast rocked a Brussels metro station shortly after, killing two dozen people and prompting authorities to put the city on a maximum terror alert. <br /> <br />Belgian media reported that at least one of the explosions took place near the American Airlines check-in counter inside the airport's departure hall, and the other at a Starbucks in the departure hall. Early media reports put the death toll at 11 at the airport. <br /> <br />About 75 minutes after the airport attack, around 9:15 a.m., another explosion ripped through the Maelbeek metro station, at a time of day when trains were packed with morning rush hour commuters. Early media reports put the death toll at 15 in the metro attack.
