Q & A for Spills on Rugs and Carpets

I just spilled red wine on my carpet. What should I do?

Red wine and carpet are not a good combination! But in most cases if you act on it right away you can keep the spill from becoming a stain.

Here are two methods for removing red wine out of your carpet:

METHOD 1: With a white cloth, try and blot as much of the red wine stain as you can. The more you can soak up, the less you’ll have to remove. After you finish blotting, pour some cold water directly onto the wine stain. This will help dilute the stain, making blotting it up easier. Continue blotting until you find that no more of the stain will come out. Finally, make a baking soda paste by mixing a three parts water to one part baking soda. Apply it to the wine spill area. Once the paste is dry, vacuum the stain.

METHOD 2: Again, blot the spill to remove as much of the wine as possible. Use paper towels or a clean white cloth. Mix in a bowl the following ingredients: two cups of warm water, one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid. Dip a clean white towel into the bowl and begin applying the solution directly onto the wine stain. Keep blotting the spot until the stain has lifted.

If these two methods aren’t producing the results you want you can call Steam Master Carpet Cleaning.
