Man Slept With Wife's Dead Body for Five Months

Thanks for watching....<br />Pontypridd, South Wales 2005.<br />One Saturday morning A pensioner Howard Lewis woke up to his wife breathing strangely before she finally went still. <br />He was going to call an ambulance, but instead, he went out to buy a newspaper and pretended nothing happened.<br />Howard Lewis' wife Elizabeth, 79, suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the last five years of her life.<br />Howard took care of Elizabeth, he could not come to terms with the shock of her death.<br />Howard Lewis had been married to his wife, Elizabeth, for 34 years.<br />When friends and neighbors asked how Elizabeth was doing, he would say she was doing fine.<br />Neighbors became concerned after not seeing Mrs Lewis for some time. <br />They called police, who visited the house on 11 November where they found Mrs Lewis' remains.<br />Lewis continued pretending nothing happened for five months. <br />Every night, he would go to the room, touch her face, and say goodnight.<br />In order to mask the smell of decomposition, he kept the house cold and kept air fresheners scattered throughout the house.<br />Pc Danny MacNamara told the inquest as soon as he entered the house he noticed a strong smell.<br />The curtains were also drawn.<br />On November 11, Mr Lewis, 69, told officers his wife was asleep in bed.<br />The officer and a colleague went upstairs towards the bedroom where they saw the figure of a body under the blanket.<br />Mr Lewis was arrested.<br />Mr Lewis had no real explanation as to why he hadn't informed the authorities of his wife's death.<br />Although Mr Lewis was arrested, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it was not in the public interest to prosecute.<br />A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Lewis had been dead for several months.<br />Although Mr Lewis was arrested, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it was not in the public interest to prosecute.
