Japanese media say the death toll from the two earthquakes in southern Japan has risen to 39.<br />Kyodo News agency, citing officials in Kumamoto prefecture, says 30 people died in the magnitude-7.3 quake that struck early Saturday morning.<br />The other victims died in the magnitude-6.5 quake on Thursday night.<br />Officials had said earlier Saturday that 10 had died in Thursday’s quake and 22 in Saturday’s.<br />Of the 1,500 people injured, 80 of them had serious injuries, said chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga.<br />Nearly 91,000 people were forced from their homes.
