NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — A Tennessee mother and her friend face child neglect charges after they left her 13-month-year-old daughter in a car while she auditioned for a job at a strip club.

Kelsey McMurtry, 24, felt the binds of lack of affordable childcare in the United States when she had to go to a job audition in downtown Nashville last Thursday.
Obviously unable to afford a proper nanny, McMurtry had little option but to ask a friend, Summer Taylor, 19, to look after her daughter during her audition at Deja Vu, a strip club.

Taylor, however, neglected her duties by choosing instead to watch McMurtry’s performance. Witnesses told WKRN-TV that McMurtry’s infant daughter remained locked in a car by herself for about half an hour.

A passerby noticed the girl and immediately called the police. When police arrived, officers removed the sweat-drenched infant. The temperature in the car had allegedly reached 100 degrees by the time police responded, reported WKRN.

The child has reportedly now been placed with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. McMurtry and Taylor have both been charged with child neglect.

Although McMurtry isn’t blameless, imagine how this situation could have been avoided if more support was available for the parents who need it.
