Starring Ole Olsen, Chic Johnson, Joyce Compton, Lila Lee, Pierre Watkin and Ray "Crash" Corrigan. Directed by Ralph Staub.

Though the screen version of their successful, madcap stage classic, HELLZAPOPPIN', remains one the funniest films to come out of Hollywood in the 1940s, the Olsen and Johnson had only sporadic luck in the movies. Between 1930 and 1945, they appeared or starred in ten films, none of which approached the success or quality of HELLZAPOPPIN', their seventh film.

Here's a somewhat subdued Olsen and Johnson playing inept con-men selling worthless stock to small town citizens in the first of two films they made for Republic Pictures, COUNTRY GENTLEMEN (1936).

This is the edited-for-television version. In its uncut form, COUNTRY GENTLEMEN had a running time of 66 minutes. It was trimmed in the early 1950s to fit a one-hour time slot for television showings.

Release date: November 9, 1936.
