ESR is defined as the rate of sedimentation of erythrocytes in a column of anticoagulated blood at certain time. <br />ESR is measured using wintrobe or westergreen method <br />sodium citrate is used as an anticoagulant <br />ESR is increased in inflammation and in cases associated with decreased RBCs count or size. <br />Decreased ESR occurs in cases associated with dehydration and hemoconcentration.
