Any doctor who performs an abortion in Oklahoma could be charged with a felony and hit with up to three years in prison under a billpassed by the Legislature Thursday.<br />The measure is the first of its kind in the nation.<br />It would also restrict any physician who performs an abortion from getting or renewing a license to practice medicine inOklahoma.<br />The Senate voted 33-12 Thursday for the bill by RepublicanSen. Nathan Dahm with no discussion or debate.<br />A handful of Republicans joined Democrats in voting against the bill.<br />Abortion rights supporters said the bill is unconstitutional and will be challenged immediately.
