DALLAS — Thursday’s shooting in Dallas during a peaceful protest resulted in 12 officers and two civilians shot; five officers have died. <br /> <br />Here’s what we know of the victims: <br /> <br />Brent Thompson, 43, was the first to be identified by Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Thompson is the first DART officer to be killed in the line of duty. Thompson was a newlywed with six adult children from a previous marriage. He recently welcomed his third grandchild. <br /> <br />Navy vet Patrick Zamarripa was identified by his family. He was married with a toddler and school-age stepchild. Zamarripa did three tours in Iraq with the Navy. He would have been 33 next month. <br /> <br />Michael Krol, 40, was identified by his former employer, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department in Michigan. <br /> <br />“We are saddened by the loss of the dedicated officers in Dallas — one of whom was a former member of this agency — and also the wounding of the other officers,” Sheriff Benny Napoleon said in a written statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and also the Dallas Police Department.” <br /> <br />Other wounded DART personnel were identified as Officer Omar Cannon, 44, who joined the DART force in July 2009; Officer Misty McBride, 32, who joined in March 2010; and Officer Jesus Retana, 39, who joined in April 2006. <br /> <br />Two civilians were also wounded. One of the civilians ID-ed as Shetamia Taylor was a protestor, who was shot in the calf while shielding her two sons. She underwent surgery early Friday and is expected to recover. <br /> <br />Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings lead prayers at a vigil held in memorial of the victims on Friday, July 8. <br /> <br />The attack is being called the deadliest for cops since 9/11, and is one of the worst in Dallas history.
