ALBANY, AUSTRALIA — A kayaker encountered a shark believed to be four to five meters long off the coast of Albany, Australia. <br /> <br />The encounter was caught on camera. The kayaker, Ian Watkins, could be heard on video making a mayday call, just as the dorsal fin of a shark appears next to him and disappears below his kayak. <br /> <br />Watkins told ABC News that at first he believed the shark was a wake emitted by a nearby whale watching boat, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was a white pointer, otherwise known as a great white shark. <br /> <br />Great white sharks are known to frequent Australian beaches. There have been reported encounters with great white sharks measuring 6 to 7 meters in the region.
