RANDALLSTOWN, MARYLAND — Police shot a gunwoman to death on Monday following an armed standoff during which her social media followers encouraged her not to comply with officers’ requests. <br /> <br />According to a Baltimore County Government news release, Korryn Gaines, 23, was armed with a shotgun at her apartment in Randallstown, Maryland on Monday. Her 5-year-old son was in the apartment at the time. <br /> <br />Gaines was livestreaming the standoff, Reuters reported. Police said her followers were encouraging her not to comply with officers. <br /> <br />Authorities used Facebook’s law enforcement portal to ask the company to deactivate Gaines’ social media accounts. The accounts were taken offline an hour later, the Baltimore County news release said. <br /> <br />According to Maryland police, Gaines threatened to kill one officer and open fired on another one. She was killed in the ensuing gun battle. <br /> <br />Gaines’ son was struck by a bullet and taken to a local hospital where he’s reportedly in good condition. It’s unknown if the injuring shot was fired by police or his mother, the Baltimore County news release said. <br /> <br />The incident began at around 9 a.m. on Monday when officers arrived at Gaines’s apartment to serve arrest warrants for her and her boyfriend Kareem Courtney. <br /> <br />Courtney fled the scene with a 1-year-old child during the standoff but was later caught by police, NBC News reported.
