CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA & SANFORD, FLORIDA — Two people involved in recent racially charged killings of black people got punched in the face this week. <br /> <br />Dylann Roof, the South Carolina man accused of killing nine people inside an historic black church last year, got beat up in jail on Thursday morning, the Associated Press reported. <br /> <br />Roof was preparing to shower when he was assaulted by another inmate inside the Charleston County Detention Center, Sheriff Al Cannon said at a Thursday press conference. <br /> <br />Inmate Dwayne Stafford, 22, punched Roof a bunch of times really quickly before a jail guard pulled them apart, Cannon said. <br /> <br />Roof was bruised but unfortunately not seriously injured. He later returned to his cell after getting checked by medical staff. <br /> <br />In another incident over the weekend, George Zimmerman was punched in the face after a man accused him of bragging about shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, the Orlando Sentinel reported, citing the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. <br /> <br />Zimmerman was telling people at a restaurant in Sanford that he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense when a large man came up and asked, “You’re bragging about that?” before punching him in the face. <br /> <br />Zimmerman and a friend called 911 and asked for cops to come rescue him. <br /> <br />Witnesses said they overheard Zimmerman say to someone, “I love your tattoos. My name is George Zimmerman, you know, that guy who killed Trayvon Martin?” <br /> <br />The man accused of punching Zimmerman, who fled the scene on a blue Harley-Davidson, could face charges, according to WFTV. His identity has not yet been released.
