Construction is underway on a 9.3-mile extension of a light-rail Blue Line in Charlotte, N.C., similar to what the Maryland suburbs will see once construction begins on the 16-mile light-rail Purple Line between Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Charlotte’s Blue Line extension has been under construction since 2014 and is scheduled to open for service in August 2017.
