Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi, a former Malian rebel fighter has pleaded guilty to war crimes charges at the International Criminal court in the Hague.<br />He's accused of deliberate destroying Islamic religious and cultural sites in Timbuktu in 2012.<br />
